At the beginner level, a student will be taught foundational music
theory. Instruction will be administered by a certified music
teacher. Classes will be held on weekends at selected locations.
At the intermediate level, a more structured and rigorous approach
to music education will be administered. At this level, students
will be encouraged to participate in live Jazz music performance.
Classes will begin each quarter, on weekends.
The advanced level curriculum sharpens the student's improvisational
performance. Additionally, students will be taught how to compose
and arrange Jazz ensembles. An addition focus on occupations in the
music industry will be administered. Promotions, live performance,
recording, sales and distribution of Jazz music will be taught.
Upon completion of the curriculum, a student will be eligible to
apply for a scholarship under the M.O.V.E program to attend a
college of their choice. Music must be the Major.
Funding for the M.O.V.E. scholarship will be achieved through
donations, fund raising events, and fine arts endowments. The
scholarship fund will be established at a donor bank or financial
institution to ensure that funds will be available to the
recipients.
Scholarships will be awarder to students who maintain a ‘B' average
throughout high school. A ‘B' average in undergraduate studies must
be maintained in order to continue financial assistance to the
recipient.
The selection of each scholarship recipient will be administered by
the AJS Board of Directors.
